New Istanbul Turkish Language Teaching Set for International Students

The Turkish Language Education Directorate uses the “New Istanbul Turkish Language Teaching Set for International Students” in Turkish language instruction for foreign students. This set was developed based on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) and is a teaching material designed to comprehensively develop students’ listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills.

The set was prepared using a communicative and student-centered approach, aiming to enable students to effectively use Turkish across the four core skill areas. Throughout the teaching process, emphasis is placed not only on language instruction but also on the importance of intercultural interaction and cultural awareness. In this regard, texts, activities, and exercises designed to support individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds in developing positive attitudes toward living together are presented in an integrated manner throughout the set.

The New Istanbul series consists of five course packages covering the A1, A2, B1, B2, and C1 levels. Each course package includes a textbook, workbook, teacher’s guide, listening materials, and video content. Additionally, through the QR code system included in the series, students can access listening and video activities digitally.

Academic Turkish Language Skills for International Students

The book titled Academic Turkish Language Skills for International Students is designed to serve as one of the primary reference resources in the teaching of Academic Turkish. This comprehensive teaching material has been prepared to meet the needs of international students at the B2–C1 level who plan to pursue undergraduate, graduate, or doctoral studies in Turkey or aim to improve their proficiency in Academic Turkish. The primary objective of the publication is to develop the reading, writing, listening/viewing, and speaking skills expected to be used effectively in academic settings through an integrated approach.

The book features original topics selected from the fields of social sciences, natural sciences, and health sciences; “Language and Education,” “Technology and Innovation,” “Agriculture and Food,” “Economics and Marketing,” “Communication and Social Media,” “Climate and Environment,” and “Health and Pharmaceuticals.” Each unit is structured to require students to engage in higher-order cognitive processes—such as analyzing academic texts in detail, taking notes, summarizing, synthesizing information, interpreting, comparing, and critically evaluating—while studying these topics. Additionally, the course aims to enhance students’ awareness of academic discourse and field-specific terminology through activities such as conducting discussions, preparing and delivering academic presentations, expressing ideas, analyzing graphs and tables, and citing sources. A student-centered, task-based, and collaborative learning approach has been adopted in the teaching process; accordingly, the development of learners’ critical, creative, and analytical thinking skills is targeted.

Each language skill is supported by practical tasks based on clear and measurable learning outcomes; the book also includes a comprehensive teacher’s guide at the end that instructors can use in their classroom instruction. With these features, the book serves not only as an effective learning tool that supports students’ academic success but also as a reliable and standardized reference resource for educators.

Speaking and Writing Club Activities in Teaching Turkish as a Foreign Language (B2)

Speaking and Writing Club Activities in Teaching Turkish as a Foreign Language (C1)

Foreign language instruction is built upon reading, listening, speaking, and writing skills. In the classroom setting, due to time constraints and various limitations, the mechanisms for monitoring speaking and writing skills are less effective. Therefore, to develop students’ speaking and writing skills, there is a need for certain activities that take place outside the classroom and are relatively extracurricular. Speaking and writing clubs have been designed to address these needs, and the book in your hands has been created with this purpose in mind. We believe this book will contribute to the development of speaking and writing skills; it includes a total of sixteen weeks of club activities, consisting of eight weeks of speaking and eight weeks of writing. Each unit features activities designed to assess the acquisition of speaking and writing skills based on a core topic. While it is more appropriate for these activities to be conducted under the guidance of an instructor, student-centered club activities that ensure active student participation will undoubtedly be more beneficial. The activities you will undertake in the club will enhance your ability to speak both in conversation and independently, enrich your personal vocabulary, and reinforce your reading and comprehension skills in the target language. Additionally, in every activity of the club, students will have the opportunity to receive feedback from the instructor.
